Diabetes is a metabolic disorder that results in elevated blood glucose levels.

In people with diabetes, the body either produces insufficient amounts of the hormone insulin or struggles to utilize the insulin that is produced.

 Following a meal, insulin regulates the levels of glucose in the blood.

  1. Insulin- dependent diabetes mellitus

 ( Type-1 )– usually, this type of diabetes affects children or adolescents. There is little or no production of insulin.

  • If you have type 1 diabetes, weight gain may occur once you start taking insulin.
  • Losing weight may require fine-tuning your calorie and carbohydrate intake and insulin dose.
  • People with type 1 diabetes can also develop insulin resistance, and in that situation, would benefit from weight loss to help them need less insulin.


  1. Non- Insulin dependent diabetes mellitus(type-2) – A person’s risk of getting type 2 diabetes rises if they are overweight or obese. Insulin resistance is a disease that affects people with type 2 diabetes.


  • This indicates that although the body can usually still produce insulin, it cannot be efficiently utilized by the pancreas. By producing more insulin, the pancreas tries to make up for the imbalance, but finally wears out.
